You’ve come to the right place if you are unfamiliar with GAF’s residential roofing systems. A roofing system consists of many components, all working together to keep the elements and, most importantly, moisture out, keeping homes across the country safe and looking fantastic.

A1 Roofing is certified and trained to install the GAF residential roofing systems and is proud to offer residential installs in Long Island.

Let’s look closer at what makes up this excellent roofing product and why you should consider using one of the GAF residential roofing systems for your home or next roofing project.

GAF’s 7-Part Roofing System

GAF residential roofing systems include 7 separate parts, all collaborating to make a quality system that looks amazing and safeguards your home for many years. It’s not just shingles that you slap up on your roof, hoping they’ll will do the job. You won’t regret installing this amazing system on your home!

Assessment of Your Roof

Your certified roofing contractor will assess your roof and measure it to plan what work needs to be done and what product needs to be ordered. Old roofing will be removed, and the decking will be examined for damage that may need repairing before your new roof is installed. After this assessment, you will have a good idea of what to expect regarding what will be required for your new roof installation, including the cost.

Leak Barrier

The leak barrier is one of the most important parts of GAF residential roofing systems and any roofing system for that matter. It’s placed as the first or one of the first layers of the system and helps prevent your roof from ever leaking again. The leak barrier, a watertight membrane, helps prevent any potential leaking from forceful rain, hail, and ice dams that could hurt your home’s roof.

There are two different kinds of leak barriers that GAF offers, Stormguard® and Weatherwatch®. Your professional roofer can help you decide the best for your climate.

Roof Deck Protection

The roof deck protection is just that– another layer of protection that is placed between your shingles and the roof deck. It serves as a shield from anything getting under the shingles, especially during those nasty windstorms. A vital part of the GAF residential roofing systems, this product is made of synthetic material, is fiberglass-reinforced, and is fire-resistant.

Starter Strip Shingles

Starter strip shingles are placed on top of the leak barrier along the eaves of your roof. The starter strip shingles help protect your roof and shingles from blowing off. Plus, these starter strip shingles qualify you for a lifetime limited warranty as well as the wind coverage warranty GAF offers – a win, win!

Lifetime Shingles

Once all the other components (that you don’t really see but are vitally important to your roof’s protection) are in place, your roofing contractor will install your quality lifetime shingles. These beautiful, premium shingles are offered in a variety of colors and styles and are made to keep your home and roof safe for many years to come.

Cobra Attic Ventilation

The Cobra attic ventilation is placed at the ridge cap of your roof to help minimize moisture and heat that can collect in your attic space. Although it’s probably not something you’ve given much thought to in the past, it’s a crucial component of the entire system. There are several vents to choose from, giving you a few options depending on your climate. This ventilation helps:

  • Protect your roof from early deterioration
  • Lower utility costs by assisting with energy efficiency
  • Decrease heat and moisture in your attic space so that paint and wallpaper are kept dry and in place
  • Minimize ice dam formations

Ridge Cap Shingles

Ridge cap shingles are placed last on top of the roof’s ridge. This is the last protection that finishes off your roof’s hips and ridges from moisture. It also provides that finished look, providing a beautiful aesthetic to your new roof. It has finally all come together!

The Lifespan and Warranty of a GAF Roofing System

With a lifespan of 25-30 years, your asphalt GAF Roofing Systems work together to safeguard your home with innovative technology and updated materials.

You’re making an investment when it comes to your new roof. It’s essential to protect that investment with a warranty that best meets your needs regarding the weather your home is exposed to, how much wind you get in your area, as well as stain protection, and more.

When you hire a contractor enrolled in the GAF factory-certified contractor programs, you have access to many more warranty choices than you would otherwise. When you install GAF residential roofing systems (GAF Lifetime Shingles and at least 3 qualifying accessories), you qualify for the GAF Roofing System Limited Warranty, similar to the GAF Shingle & Accessory Limited Warranty, but with a Lifetime coverage added to it.

There are many other warranties that you may be eligible for as well, depending on the products you install. Your roofing contractor will be able to walk you through all the choices available so you know what would be most beneficial to you and your new roof coverage.
